things i like today pt.1

Talking about nails folks… I decided I needed a short break from my favorite color and from my go-to color.  Thought I’d get bored, but I’m loving the fresh, clean, simplicity of the nude hue!

Our recent trip to Colorado Springs provided us more than quality great-grandma time, road-trip fun and more fast food than I think we’ve ever eaten in 48 hours… We were given this awesome end table! For the past 50+ years it has lived in Grandma Sorenson’s house and now it lives in ours!  I forgot the before picture, but subtract the funky new glass knob, and the ‘almond’ paint and you get the idea… I loved it before and I LOVE IT now!  Seriously friends, take a second look at some of those old furniture pieces that someone thinks are so ‘out’, you’d be amazed what a little face-lift will do for the piece and your home!

Any day that has coffee, cookies, crafts, my best girl and my little beauties is LIKE the best day ever!

This song on this precious day:

“The fullness of Your grace is here with me
The richness of Your beauty’s all I see
The brightness of Your glory has arrived
In Your presence God, I’m completely satisfied

For You I sing I dance
Rejoice in this divine romance
Lift my heart and my hands
To show my love, to show my love

A deep deep flood, an Ocean flows from You
Of deep deep love, yeah it’s filling up the room
Your innocent blood, has washed my guilty life
In Your presence God I’m completely satisfied”

“…he surrendered himself to death
and was counted among the wicked;
and he shall take away the sins of many,
and win pardon for their offenses.”

-Isaiah 53.12

our version of a beach bod

With a beach vacation on the horizon and swimsuit wearing looming, we are focusing on healthy snacking over here.  I am not one of those gals who does very well going without things that I love, thrives on having a deadline, or who can really even function with any type of diet.  So, my beach bod goals:

Acceptance.

To feel healthy.

Embrace my strength.

Get energized.

For me, step 1 is buying a swimsuit that fits well.  This means some much needed boost (another thing nobody thought to tell me about breastfeeding 2 babies) and the right size to cover everything and allow me to play with the beauties. Two, to add as many healthy snacks as I can.  I don’t plan on cutting out sugar or booze or fat… I just hope that in adding healthy options to our fridge maybe I won’t have as much room for the junk that I tend to go for when I haven’t eaten all day. I want to focus on rest and sleep.  I will try to relax and just get done the things that are necessary and try to take advantage of the sleep time that Elle offers!  Kurt and I have also committed to a minimal number of workouts before we go.  Things that we consider fun (as fun as a work out can be) and can do together. I made a little scratch chart… we’ll see how it goes.  Wish us luck!

(notice, we have actually done a few workouts! oh, and we got the idea for our memo board here.  ours still needs some work but I love the idea!)

Here are some healthy snacks that have found their way into the snack rotation:

Lentals (hot or cold)

Baby Cucumbers

Apples with natural Peanut Butter

Light String Cheese

Edamame

Eggs

Brown Rice Cakes

Marcona Almonds

Sliced Turkey

Sliced Avocado with Sliced Cheese

Rice Crackers with Hummus

Baby Bell Peppers

Turkey Pepperoni’s

As a side note: I will be finishing this flourless chocolate cake before the weeks end, just in time to finish the pan of brownies I will be making for Kurt’s Birthday ’round 2′ on Friday!

Trader Joe’s flourless chocolate cake. Add some ice cream and in our case some peanut butter chocolate sauce- ummmm… yum! And, it’s Gluten Free if that’s important to ya!

Lets be honest, I think the main goal I will focus on for the bod a’la beach vacay will be acceptance .

Happy St. Patty’s day friends!  Cheers to some green beer tonight!  {Geez, I’m hopeless 😉 }

sugar lips

Dry cracked lips anyone? Or is that just me?  UGH!

Finally today, I’d had enough.  Didn’t I hear somewhere that if you rub sugar on your lips it would remove dead skin???

But what to mix it with?…  Honey? Sure.

I grabbed my ingredients and headed for the bathroom to put an end to my embarrassing, winterized lips.

I mixed. Rubbed.  Licked. Mmmmm. Rinsed with warm water… Success!

I am finally free to try my new Willing-It-To Be- Spring peachy lipstick! Yay!

Happy Exfoliating!

Ava busted out the flip flops… she’s SO her father’s daughter 🙂

Something to talk about

Any book that got Kurt to do this is worthy of a post! 🙂

Thank you ‘View’  and Dr. Oz for peaking our interest so and introducing us to this cool book!  I don’t do this often (ha-ha) but immediately following a TV interview with this author I got on Amazon.com and ordered this guy as fast as I could.  I really like his philosophy that it takes small consistent changes in order to make huge changes in your health and quality of life.  But I also just had to see how he backed up some of  the claims he had made on national television.

The 4 Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss

The 4-Hour Body is the result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body. It contains the collective wisdom of hundreds of elite athletes, dozens of MDs, and thousands of hours of jaw-dropping personal experimentation. From Olympic training centers to black-market laboratories, from Silicon Valley to South Africa, Tim Ferriss, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, fixated on one life-changing question:

For all things physical, what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results?

Thousands of tests later, this book contains the answers for both men and women.

From the gym to the bedroom, it’s all here, and it all works.

YOU WILL LEARN (in less than 30 minutes each)

  • How to prevent fat gain while binging (X-mas, holidays, weekends)
  • How to increase fat-loss 300% with a few bags of ice
  • How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time
  • How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested
  • How to produce 15-minute female orgasms
  • How to triple testosterone and double sperm count
  • How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks
  • How to reverse “permanent” injuries
  • How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months

Kurt and I have had a good time taking turns reading random chapters this past week.  That’s another perk, you don’t have to read it front to back, you can read only what you’re interested in (but good luck stopping!)!  Our friends and family will be the first to tell you that many a conversations have been started about the interesting findings we’ve uncovered through our new coffee table book!  I can also report that every night you can find us doing 60-120 seconds of air squats in our living room… want to know why???? Check it out 😉
See you all on page 70 where I will be losing fat without working out, thank you!

…and Headbands!

My very crafty and adorable friend also made me a funky headband that I’m loving!

Foundation Find

For me make up has always been one of those things that I didn’t scrimp on.  In my college years I would definitely choose makeup ( and jeans) over grocery’s.  ANY day!  Well, fast-forward a few years and while I would be content to live on a diet of popcorn, string cheese and ice cream… my family is not so easily satisfied.  Though skeptical, I have decided that if it is possible to find a suitable replacement for a better price, why not!  So as I, piece by piece, replace my old loves with new ‘cheaper’ ones, I’ve decided to share.  I know that make-up is personal and that my choices and recommendations may not be for everyone but maybe I can inspire some of you to venture into the drugstore and find something that works for you and your budget!

Of course right as the Christmas bills were rolling in I ran out of Foundation… AHHH!  I definitely didn’t have the stomach to head out to Sephora for my usual $40 replacement so instead, I parked in the aisle of Target and found something that sounded promising… Now, I have tried doing a foundation swap before, but I get SO FRUSTRATED trying to find my correct shade in the drugstore.  Seriously, how do you do it without opening every bottle (all the while feeling guilty that you probably shouldn’t be opening every bottle) in order to find the perfect shade? So, as I was almost ready to give up I came across Cover Girl. It was really the only brand that had a little color-match guide.  You just run your hand under the transparentish sheet with a streak of all of their shades on it and when the color over your hand blends in you’ve got your shade!  I wasn’t totally at ease as I plucked up the color they recommended and headed for the register- but it worked!

So, instead of this:

Lorac

I went for this:

CoverGirl

CoverGirl Advanced Radiance in Classic Ivory $10

I am really liking my choice.  I do realize that this Foundation is marketed for women between 35 and 50… recommended for help with fine lines and wrinkles- but I loved that it has a very silky texture, good coverage, is suitable for sensitive skin, contains SPF and it doesn’t hurt that it says “age-defying” front and center on the bottle 🙂
